In September 2013, Shenandoah University's Eleanor Wade Custer School of Nursing was awarded a grant from the Health Resource and Services Administration to develop and implement a program to increase the enrollment, progression, and graduation of veterans from baccalaureate (BSN) nursing programs. The success of this initiative resulted from faculty and administrative support, a comprehensive infrastructure, a process for awarding academic credit for military experience, and collaborative methods for easing the veteran's transition into academia.
