Open Educational Resources: A Curriculum Transformed to Support Student Achievement

Presenter(s):

Matthew Prineas, PhD, Vice Provost and Dean of the Undergraduate School, University of Maryland University College; Megan Benefiel, Program Manager, Learning Design and Solutions, University of Maryland University College

UMUC has completed phase one - the undergraduate school - of transforming its curriculum to incorporate open educational resources (OERs) instead of publisher textbooks for its students. OERs provide students with cutting-edge, current and professionally-relevant learning resources, improving their learning at no financial cost to students. In 2014 alone, this saved our students over $5 million, and 2015 savings will more than double that figure.
