Mr. Matthew Brennan
Education & Credentialing Policy Analyst for The American Legion's Veterans Employment & Education
Matthew Brennan is an Education and Credentialing Policy Analyst for The American Legion's Veterans Employment and Education Division in Washington, D.C. He is a U.S. Navy veteran who deployed as a senior medic on a Damage Control Surgical Team supporting Special Operations throughout several African Countries in 2017 and 2018, earning a Joint Service Commendation Medal for his exemplary leadership. After his service, Matthew used the Post-9/11 GI Bill to pursue a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Outside the classroom, Matthew continued to serve his community by creating the school's first Student Veterans of America chapter, providing a much-needed sense of community for his fellow military-affiliated students.
In his role at The American Legion National Headquarters in Washington, D.C., he advocates for expanding student veterans' benefits and protecting their hard-earned GI Bill benefits. In addition, he works with federal and state licensing boards to help veterans achieve the credentials necessary for gainful employment to ease their transition from active duty to veteran status. Moreover, he prepares congressional testimony before Congress and works with the Department of Veterans Affairs to improve transition benefits for our nation's service members
