MICHELE SPIRES
American Council of Education Liaison
Michele Spires is the assistant vice president of ACE Learning Evaluations at the American Council on Education (ACE). Learning Evaluations is the national leader in recognizing and validating learning and competencies to connect learners, employers, training providers, and universities. In this role, Spires provides leadership to innovate new and transformational opportunities for ACE and its membership.
With close to 30 years of wide-ranging experience in post-traditional and workforce education, Spires is actively engaged in tackling critical topics such as the evaluation of educational experiences that occur outside the traditional classroom, credit for prior learning, military culture, transcripts, competencies, credentials, transfer credit, and trends related to workforce education and training. She is a coauthor of Recognition of Learning Across Military and Corporate Settings: How ACE Blends Standard Processes, Disciplinary Expertise, and Context to Ensure Quality. Spires served on the steering committee for Digital Promise’s Learning and Employment Records (LER) for Equity project and continues to engage with the George W. Bush Institute's Stand-To Veteran Higher Education Task Force, which recently released a report titled Enrolling and Supporting Student Veterans: The Right Thing for Higher Education.
Spires holds a BA in French from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh and an MS in educational leadership from Troy University. She has also completed postgraduate courses with a focus on adult education and curriculum at Nova Southeastern University. Spires is the proud spouse of a veteran who served 22 years in the United States Air Force.
